The V-FLY
This fly is one of the best flies you can carry in your box. Though small and dull - it will pull big salmon to the top...time after time
Leaving a dry fly to dead drifting across salmon is one thing but trailing a fly in the surface is another highly efficient approach
Hitching, skating, dibbling, dapping... all names of methods that can bring atlantic salmon to the top.
The fly in these next frames comes highly recommended. It has grown out of old traditions of: hitching a fly that evolved more than a century ago among fly fishers at the east coast of America. Here fly fishers noticed that the salmon fly tied on sideways would pull to the surface where it would trail leaving a v-shaped wake behind it. Salmon also noticed the trailing fly - and the technique soon became very popular.
Their is no doubt in our mind that this technique and fly presentation is closely linked with the life and behaviour of the caddis...for more information on this fantastic insect go to
